Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Almost 3 hrs long, filled with lots more action and lots more robots from the world of Cybertron, Transformers 2 is much more than meets the eye.

Is it better than the first ? No ! But it is really good in both story and entertainment.

This film is filled with so much more than the first movie.

Autobots and Decepticons that we wanted to see in the first one are all here. The problem though ,is that there are so many in this film, that we are not able to learn about everyone.

We should have been introduced to the new Transformers or at least learn all of their names instead of guessing which one is which.

I would have liked to see much more on the Decepticon side, since this was about the revenge of one of them.

Since this film was supposed to be quite dark, there was a whole lots of humour thrown in which was great , but there was maybe a bit too much on the stereotypes.

Transformers 1 was amazing to see. This one was just a bigger movie.

Did I Like it ? Yes.

Star Trek

Okay, I said that Wolverine was a good start to the Summer, but Star Trek has it!!

This new take on a series that has been going on for over 40 years now, has done what many might have thought “Impossible”.

Starting with the cross cutting between the death of a father and the birth of his son, showing the exit of a shuttle ship to the entrance of a new born baby, the film introduces one of the most iconic characters of film and television history.

We see the beginning of Star Trek the way we have always wanted. Learning about each of the famous characters one by one and how they all became the team that we grew up watching.

With a fantastic writing team behind the script, the new cast brings all the Characteristics and Mannerisms to the screen flawlessly, making you believe that they are the original cast from the 60s. The film is filled with details from the originals and subjects that we have only heard of.

It has a faster pace than the originals and has a nice, new, glossy look to it, accompanied by the use of lens flares throughout the entire film, which adds to the contrast between the Enterprise and the enemy’s ship.

Fans of the series will love this film and those who are new to the series will also begin following this franchise.

The score is fresh and full of power, adding to the drama and action of the film. It was also great hearing the original music in the closing titles of the movie.

All in all I look forward to seeing the film makers go where no film makers have gone before.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Okay, I think that I have given you enough time to see one of the most anticipated movies of the year. There are so many big ones coming out this year, but let me start with the first big one.

Wolverine

I was lucky enough to see this at the Charity Screening here and it was quite a nice night. Anyway, I really enjoyed this film, but there were some things that confused me a bit. Oh you should stop reading if you have not seen the movie yet.

Before seeing the film I made sure to do some research on what other characters were supposed to be in the film and get a little bit of a background on them.

3 things stood out that strayed away from the original concept of the X-Men Universe.

1) Why in the world would they make Wolverine and Sabertooth brothers? Just because they have similar powers does not mean they have to be related. I did not like this twist.

2) Originally, Logan’s wife is raped and killed by Sabertooth , which would be one of the biggest reasons for Wolverine hating Sabertooth. The wife originally is brought back to life with her memory erased and having powers, but in the film they just faked her death and she also has powers from the beginning of the movie.

3) The character of Emma Frost, (you know the girl who changes into diamonds), well she is really not Wolverine’s Wife’s sister. I thought that was a bit silly.

Oh well, there you have what I did not like about the film.

Everything else was pretty good. Seeing more mutants than in the other X-Men movies was very cool. Also there were some very nice surprises, which really added to my excitement while watching the film

It was great seeing a real origin story. By a nice opening montage sequence, you get an idea of just how old Wolverine is and the amount of experience he has in war.

The other Mutants had some really cool powers especially Deadpool who got some extra powers which added to a fun filled fight.

I think that this film was good, even though they made some changes. Check out the film and get ready for a fun filled summer line up.

WatchMen

Set in an alternate 1985, Zack Snyder the director of 300, brings to us, a gritty, pre-apocalyptic movie based on the popular graphic novel by Alan Moore.

With Nixon still as President, we are introduced to a team of vigilante crime fighters who have no special powers but are still regarded as superheros.

Watchmen opens with a brilliant montage sequence taking us through times of the past, showing familiar faces like David Bowie, the Village people and Andy Warhol to the assination of President Kennedy, bringing a storyline like no other.

The movie follows the investigation of the death of one of these crimefighters, making us believe that this is the premise of the film, but as the film moves along, it brings to us an unsuspecting plot.

Weighing in at almost 3 hrs, the movie flies by and is extremely well told.

There is great character development and we learn all about each of these characters in depth.

There are all sorts of historical references and stories within stories which seperates this from being a comic book to a graphic novel.

I went in thinking that this movie would have been as stylistic as 300 and Sin City, but instead, the movie is more realistic and style is only left to the matrix-like fight sequences.

The biggest effects used were the creation of a great God-Like character who is known as Dr. Manhatten. This character is great in all ways, and ladies if you want to see a naked blue man, then this movie is for you.

This film features popular tracks from the 70's and 80's as well as some great classical scores and has you bobbing your head to the tunes.

The movie is quiet dark in nature and has undertones of homosexuality and incest. It is a very adult movie, so I would recommend this film to a mature audience.

Friday The 13th

We finally get to see the remake of Friday the 13th and if you are looking for a good slasher movie, then go check this film out.

The Film stars Danielle Panabaker who is best known for her role as Julie in the TV series, Shark and Jared Padalecki who is in Supernatural and it is a bit funny that the guy who plays his brother in that, was recently seen in My Bloody Valentine which as I said is a really good Slasher Flick.

Now this movie is really the 12th friday film, but they have made it a remake of the original second friday movie, which starts up by showing us Jason's mom being killed. We are then told the story and start thinking that only 5 campers are going to be killed in this film, but after 20 mins, the opening title is seen and the real movie begins.

The Jason character is much better than the Jason we have seen in previous films. He has much more attitude and is portrayed more as a human than the usual slow walking, lifeless Puppet.

The supporting cast was pretty good and this film provides everything that you want in a slasher flick. Nudity, Sex, Blood, Nice Kills. It has some really funny lines and does have good balance of humour to take the edge off the darker elements of the film.

They also stuck to the standard of 13 Kills which was introduced around the 3rd Friday the 13th.

I am a fan of the original 4 Friday The 13th Films and this one is right up there with them. It is a must see for Friday the 13th Fans.

My Bloody Valentine

If you are looking for a total gore fest, then this movie is for you !

The film stars, Jensen Ackles from Supernatural, Kerr Smith who is best known for his role in Dawson's Creek and Jamie King who we saw in Sin City.

The Story is pretty much about a Killer, slashing away at everyone involved in an incident from the past, but there is a mystery here in finding out who the killer is and you will be guessing till the end.

Filled with extremly brutal kill scenes, it brings joy to fans of this genre.

The movie was shot in 3D which unfortunately I was unable to see here, but for sure I will be getting the blu-ray to have body parts and weapons thrown my way.

My Bloody Valentine was a really fun slasher flick and I cannot wait to see what the new Friday the 13th has in in store for us.

He's Just Not That Into You

He's just not that into you was a pretty good romance comedy and a good see for the valentine's weekend.

The main characters are played by some fairly unknown actors, but they are supported by a great cast of known actors, some of whom were Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Connely.

By watching the lives of some couples and single friends, we find out all about relationships and what people want from one another.

Do people really mean what they say ? or are they just being polite ? What do we really want from our partners in life ? What do they want ?

So many questions we ask when we are in a relationship and even when we go out with someone for the first time.

Well I liked this film. I thought that it shed some light on something that many people may wonder about.

WHY GET MARRIED ???

The Curious of Benjamin Buttons

I bring to you, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons.

This is a story about a man who was born old and lives his life at he gets younger.

It follows the love story between characters played by Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett and also the passage of time through which we see some real events.

By using prosthetics and the same digital technique used in X-Men 3, the film makers were able to make Brad Pitt look both like an old man and a young boy. It was amazing, especially when we see Benjamin in his twenties, looking exactly what Brad Pitt looked like when he first began his career. Cate Blanchett is also transformed from a young beautiful girl to an old lady on her death bed.

It is pretty interesting, because these characters are sort of living their lives backwards and they finally get to meet in the middle, which is probably the most romantic piece of the film.

The movie was directed by David Fincher who is best known for Fight Club and Seven so it is quite different for him to make this love story, but David Fincher is a great story teller and brought to us a beautifully shot film, using both old and new film techniques. It was a lot of fun also seeing some vintage styled film for some scenes.

Benjamin Buttons is a very long film, but it does keep watching and waiting to see the changes in Brad Pitt's character. Even if you do not want to watch a love story, just see this film for the technical aspects of it.

Here is my take on some of the films for 2008.

The Review For 2008

Well the year has come to an end and what a year it has been......
From Aliens in the 50s to Men who wear makeup.
Here is my take on some of the films for 2008.

Let me begin with Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull.
Yes I know that many of you probably hated this film, but I enjoyed it. I guess cause I love the originals and Speilberg and Lucas really wanted to make a film that the fans would like.
It was a bit much for some to take in with this story line, but with the timeline they were writing for, it made sense to go in the direction of UFOs and Area 51.
The film looked and sounded like the originals and had such a feeling of nostalgia that I think all the fans enjoyed.

My next film is also from George Lucas.
That's right, Star Wars The Clone Wars.
Not a great story , but we have to remember that this was just the intro to a TV series.
The animation looked great and used a lot of camera movements which are not really seen in many films of this type.
This I thought added to the action and the overall look of the film.

It has been a big year for comic book heros.
Both Marvel and DC.
First up, from Marvel, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man.
The Incredible Hulk brought the real comic book or shall I say TV show story to the big screen.
This Hulk was much more realistic than the Hulk in Ang Lee's portayal and he looks Incredible.
Iron Man, I also thought was a great film. Robert Downey Jr. you would think is not much of a comic book type actor, but he really surprised me with this role.

Now , some of you may know that Marvel has brought together their heros to create The Avengers in their comic book world. This is also their plan for the big screen.
They hint at it in Iron Man by showing Captain America's Shield and also when Tony Stark is visited by Nick Fury who is played by Samuel L Jackson.
You also get a hint in The Incredible Hulk, when Tony Stark visits General Ross
And to those who have seen the alternate opening for the movie would have seen a frozen Captain America.

Soon we will see Thor and Captain America on the big screen, then finally The Avengers Movie.
So that's a little to look out for in the future.
Both Movies are well worth buying on Blu-Ray.

Another Comic book film that was alot of fun was HellBoy 2, the Golden Army. I was hoping that this movie would have been darker than the first, but it was still enjoyable with fascinating imagery and some good fight scenes.
Of course, this Blu-Ray also looks amazing.

A film that should have done better in the box office is Speed Racer , which was based on a cartoon from the 60s and directed by the Warshoski Brothers. They made use of the new High Def 3D cameras and whole lot of Green Screen, which brought a super clear, amazing looking film. It was quite an enjoyable movie and you should get the Blu-Ray.

Another film that was shot in 3D was Journey To The Centre Of The Earth.
This was based on the popular book by Jules Verne and was a pretty good take on it, even though it was a bit short. Unfortunately I only saw it here in 2D , so the effects were not that great, but I have the Blu-Ray and it is amazing watching it in 3D.

Another book to film is the next installment in the Narnia Series. This was Prince Caspian. This film was pretty much like The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, so I did not think that there was anything special there. You can get that on DVD just for your collection.

Let me see, The Mummy 3 also came out this year, but I thought that it was no where as good as the other two and well not even as good as The Scorpion King. There were some nice effects and action sequences but that is all. Probably not even worth buying on DVD.

It was not a bad Summer for the movies actually.
We then got RockNRolla which was great, Max Payne which was disappointing and The Quantum of Solace which I hated.
Australia was a well made film and Madagascar, along with Four Christmases was a good laugh.

Now I have not put those films in any particular order but I have to say that
The Best Film for 2008 is Batman, The Dark Knight.
Need I say more.
The film is just so real looking that you would not think that it is based on a comic book.
Excellent writing, Great Plot, Amazing Visuals. This Movie has got to be one of the best films ever.
The hype may have been about the untimely death of Heath Ledger, but after watching the film, you really see what the hype was about.
Heath's performance is mesmorizing. He goes so deeply into this dark character and changes from a funny Joker to A Scary Homicidal Maniac in blink of an eye.
It was just a great Film and a must have on Blu-Ray.

Next year, we have a good line up of movies to see.
There are three remakes, Friday the 13th, The Wolfman and My Bloody Valentine which is in 3D.
The New Star Trek Film comes out.
The first of the new Terminator Trilogy: Terminator Salvation
The long awaited Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince
and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Movie Review - Four Christmases & Twilight

This week I bring to you the first of the christmas movies and a vampire flick that should have been released for valentines.

Firstly, Four Christmases starring Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Mary SteenBurgen, Jon Voight and John Favarreu. Yep a huge cast of famous faces.

This movie has got to be one of the funniest films for the year. It follows a couple who are forced to spend christmas day with thier parents who are both seperated. So it becomes a day of four christmases.

Each family has their own quirks and differences, but they help our Couple to figure out what they really want out of life.

The humour is well paced throughout the film balancing off the more serious notes.

Twilight is based on the best selling novel of the same name.

It stars a relatively unknown cast , but most people may know the lead actor, Robert Pattinson who played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter films.

The story is all about forbidden love between a girl and a boy. The girl is Human. The boy, a Vampire.

The vampires in this film are not our traditional vampires, but they do have some similarities. This is what may seperate the readers from the film goers. I think that many people going to watch a vampire film are looking forward to horror and gore, but this is a romance film , which is why I said that it should have been released for valentines. Mostly, those who have read the book will enjoy this film, although I did like the film and I think that I shall take up reading the book and its continuing novels.

The film is a bit over two hours, which I thought could have been longer, just to explain more about these new vampires and about our main character and why she is so special.

You can tell that the budget was not very high, which gives the film a very independent look. It reminds me of Ginger Snaps, which was a good take on a warewolf film. You should check that out if you get a chance. The makeup and effects are what will disappoint most people and that is where the budget shows.

Movie Review - Australia & Madagascar 2

This week I took in a double feature . Australia starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman along with Madagascar 2 featuring the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and other well known actors, as well as british comedian, Sasha Baron Cohen.

Let me start with Australia.

The story is about a wealthy woman, Nicole Kidman, who has to take control of her late husband's cattle business. She enlists the help of a man known as Drover, played by Hugh Jackman and his job is to drive the cattle from her ranch to the shipping port. Of course she has a competitor and this is what sets off the movie.

This movie is set at the beginning of world war 2 so it does have some historical facts, but the important message in this film is the fact about the aboriginal people in Australia and the way they were treated by the British who colonized the country. There is a huge message of racism and the movie is a tribute to the aboriginal people of Australia.

It was quite a different film for the Director Baz Lurman, who is best known for Moulin Rouge. A huge step away from musical films, but he did show his love for musicals, by incorporating the Wizard of Oz into the film, which to some may bring a tear to the eye. Australia should not be called a love story, but really a story of love. It is written well, has some nice scenic shots and a serious message.

But is it worth watching at the Cinema ? Maybe, if you are looking for a good date movie.

Madagascar 2 was such a funny film.

I did not like the first one very much , but this one had me laughing throughout the entire film.

We are met with a back story of our main character, Alex the Lion, but the film does not only focus on him , but on all the supporting characters.

The animation is fantastic. there are shots that you have to look really closely, wondering to yourself if it is real or not.

It is a great movie for everyone to see and will not disappoint.

Movie Review - Iron Man

The first of the Summer Blockbusters has arrived and it is not even summer yet.

That is correct. Iron Man. This movie, I thought, was going to be rubbish, but was I wrong!!!

Firstly, I did not know much about Iron Man, except that he was a man who made a suit of armour to help him walk after he was paralyzed. I think that is what the comic was about. Anyway, the story is changed a bit to the Billionaire being kidnapped and forced to build a weapon. He then creates this suit so that he can escape.

Robert Downey Jr. plays the lead extremly well. He makes the character of Tony Stark so likeable and makes you wish to be him. The whole cast, including Gweneth Palthrow are great in this film. Even the A.I characters are fun.

The use of technology is used greatly in this film. Technology not only seen in the film, but the special effects used, bring every unbelievable thing a reality, not saying that these things do not exist, but you would not see them in everyday use. The only bad thing, is that we have seen Robots done so well last year in Transformers, that anything robot-looking, just looks like a copy of Transformers. The Iron Man costume was amazing and you could barely tell what was real and what was CGI.

Hmmm, all I can say is, "Go See The Movie !!" Look out for cameos from Stan Lee and also you can see the Director John Favereau who plays Tony Stark's Driver. One more thing, stay to the end of the credits, where you will get a glimpse of where this franchise is heading. You should always stay to the end , cause you never know what will happen.

I think that is about all I have to say about Iron Man. Not much, I know, but I usually just have more to say when I have something bad to say.

Movie Review - Contract Killers

This weekend I took in the American/Trinidadian Film “Contract Killers”.

After hearing that there was lots of action in the movie, one could only assume it is like that because it lacks any sort of story. This was exactly correct.

We start the movie in what seems to be the middle of some story and go from there. It is not confusing, but you just do not know what is happening at all. “Why is this happening? What is this about? WHY???” are just some of the questions that may go through one’s mind when watching this garbage.

Okay, it is a low budget movie, but to get a budget to make a film is quite difficult and you would expect that there would be a reasonable storyline and answers to all the questions, but there are none. I guess by having one known face in a movie is all you need to get the budget, but that budget is probably all used on that one actor.

The movie looks like it is shot on video, I could be wrong. It could be a low grade of film, but it certainly was not in high def, which would have been a good way to go if they did decide on video. The use of handheld, gives a very independent film look, but this movie is not an indy film.

Sound is not too bad with some of the Foley work, but is funny hearing Trinidadian Police cars with European sirens. The score had a chime of Bond in it for a car sequence, but you do not really get emotions from the music after that.

Speaking of Police cars. If you are wondering where all of those SUVs that were bought for the Trinidad Police Service, go check out the movie. They are all there !!!

Hmmm, the lead actress was not only unattractive, but also very hollow in her performance. There was absolutely no emotion. Her supporting character was much better than she, but the rest of the cast, including the well-known actor was disappointing.

This movie is not worth watching at all. It might make it somewhere on video, but not many people will be happy.

Well that is about all I have to say about “Contract Killers

Movie Review - Vantage Point & Untraceable

Okay , so last night I took in a double feature of Vantage Point and Untraceable at a cinplex quite a bit away.

Hmmm, I think that I shall start with Vantage Point. This movie had absolutely no real plot. Well it had a plot and that was to assisante the President of The U.S.

We see the movie through the points of veiw of five characters. This seems cool at first, by the cool editing of rewinding to a certain point in time, but got quite repetitive and boring after the third time. The only reason for this was to get a background of these characters, which could have easily been done without having to waste our time, by showing the same thing five times. It really just gives the film makers something to fill thier very empty movie.

After getting through the background of each character, which is pretty much half way through the movie, we catch back up to where the flashbacks began. This starts an extremely fast paced sequence which was quite exiciting, but then you never get to find out why certain people did certain things in the film and it all seems sort of coincedental. You would have to see the movie, to understand that a bit.

This movie has a great cast, but we get nothing out of them. It is so disappointing that Sigourney Weaver had such a small role and Dennis Quaid has absolutely no emotions, but that could just have been his character. Forest Whitaker probably has the most likeable character.

I would say wait for video on this one.

Now, onto a much better film.

Untraceble. This film was quite scary. Not scary in the way of a horror, but scary in seeing how easily someone can get into your computer and your life. There are so many things to think about after seeing this film, but the most interesting, is seeing how curious people are. The film shows, that the more outrageous something is, the more they want to watch. In this case, the movie is about a website where people can watch other people DIE. Bascially the more users on the site, the faster the person dies under a manner of torturous ways.

This can be easily compared to real life, where as soon as you see or hear about something on the tele or on the net, you just want to see it no matter how bad it may be. Kinda like the way people always slow down on the highway when there is crash. It is not really to see who was in the crash, but to see if there is anyone splattered on the road. Quite a horrible thing when you think about it.

So anyway , Untraceable is worth watching on the big screen, so catch it if you can.

Movie Review - 10,000 BC - Ten Thousand Years Of Bull Crap

Last night I took in what was supposed to be a movie filled with history and special effects. At least that is what I was hoping for. Looking out for something that showed prehistoric man, living in a primitive world, battling against nature and the horrific creatures that lived in the time. Well we do see primitive man.

The story is just dumb. Actually there is no real story. The tribe is attacked and some of their people are captured to be used as slaves, so our hero goes on a journey to save the woman he loves who has been captured. Along his way he meets with other tribes who have suffered the same fate as he and he convinces them to go with him. Somewhere along the road, well desert sands, a prophecy of our hero is revealed, but this does not have much to do with the story. There is also another prophecy in the movie that is revealed but no real follow up. They finally make it to their destination where they see the enemy who we know completely nothing about and it stays that way. In the end there is not even an action filled battle.

Let me see, there is one nice scene when we see the great mammoths that look pretty good, but could just have been large elephants with long hairy costumes. There is a saber tooth tiger, that looks pretty good, but there is one scene that you may think is a fluffy head splashing in some water. There are also some large bird like creatures which are okay, but some shots look like rear projection and not the normal green screen. The scenic shots in the film however are quite nice, but nothing special.

The sound however is really good and the score is not too bad.

Well that is about all I have to say about this huge rubbish film. My next review shall be on IronMan, which I am not thinking is going to be any good, but we shall see.

Movie Review - Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Well I do not have much to say. I quite enjoyed the movie. I should have read the book again before going into the cinema, but most things came back to me as the movie unfolded itself.

I think that most people who do not read the books might not appreciate this film as much as the other parts. The previous movies were action filled, but this one, since it is getting closer to the end of the series, has much more story, as the next two books have also. Only of course at the end there is a huge action sequence which was really exciting, but more for the readers I think. Most things in the book were in the film, but not enough of them.

The books, as they go along get much thicker, which would mean the film should get longer, but at keeping a two and half hour standard for the films, lots had to be cut or compressed. I think that they should have really had more and made the film much longer.

Okay, the movie. The effects were very nice. Yes, I know, only nice. There was nothing new really. I am sure they would have looked amazing if seen in the IMAX. The sound effects were really good. The swish from the wands and everything else really added to the movie.

The new score, however was really nice. I prefer this new score over the one from “The Goblet of Fire”, even though there were some good themes in that movie.

The action sequence could have had a more powerful piece of music to add to the drama of the film.

Now… the editing was fantastic. The use of montage sequences, with the help of the Daily Prophet, was a great way of telling the story and let you know what was happening without having to show you everything.

The new members of the cast were all good. Just wish that we could have seen more of some of them. The older cast, well they are getting so old. The adults, I am talking about. You cannot see much change in the younger cast, but you can see significant changes in the older cast. Hope they can make it to the next two movies.

Well that is about all I have to say. We shall have to wait till November 2008 for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. This film also being much more story driven than action, will be geared towards the readers more than the fans of the Harry Potter Films.

Movie Review - Transformers

So, after my very long wait, I have finally seen what really was the most anticipated movie of the year. I know that I said that Spiderman 3 was the best for the summer, but Transformers has got to be the BEST.

All I have to say is, “ WOW !!!”

It was Amazing !! There was absolutely nothing wrong with the film. The origin of the Transformers is told, for the newbies who know nothing about Transformers and brings back so many memories of the original transformer cartoons and toys. The cast is well chosen. Shia LaBeaouf is a great lead. His co-star, a pretty unknown Megan Fox, was a really good support for him along with the other supporting cast. The best thing about the cast is that the original voice of Optimus Prime was heard. Without his voice, the movie would never have felt the way it did.

Visually the movie is absolutely stunning. You cannot tell that the robots are CGI. It is just amazing to see what was once just cell animation 22 years ago in Transformers the Movie, become Photo-realistic robotic characters.

The Sound of the movie is great ! From the very beginning you hear effects of machines and everytime there is a transformation you can hear the original transformation sound from the cartoons, enhanced. It is one of the coolets things in the movie.

Now you cannot have a good movie without good music and the music was brilliant, from the memorable eighties songs in the soundtrack, along with some rock, to the beautiful, heart warming score.

The movie, although just over 2 and a half hours, moves along quickly. There was just the right amount of humour, to balance the huge amounts of drama and action that fills the movie.

Everything was perfect in this film. Well there are some continuity faults in some shots, but you know, nothing is perfect.

The best thing about the movie is that they kept to the original. There are also some nods you may notice like a certain yellow bug and some very memorable quotes.

Well I think that I have said enough. Transformers is a must see. I know that I will be seeing it again in the cinema for sure. Hope you enjoy the movie.

Movie Review - Spiderman 3

Hey Folks, So the first summer movie has arrived and I have just seen it. That is correct. Spidey has spun his web back into the cinemas with one big swing.

Let me see, where shall I begin. It was Great !! The Storyline; the Character Development; the Villians. There was so much happening in the movie that you really do not want it to be two and a half hours, but more like three and a half hours.

First up, not giving anything away, the story is set around of course Peter, Mary-Jane and Harry. A few other characters, Eddie Brock, Flint and Gwen Stacey are introduced and all the familiar faces from the Daily Bugle are there to bring everything together on the screen. It was also nice seeing a cameo, once again from Stan Lee, the creator of Spiderman. He was in the first two movies. Also always fun seeing Bruce Cambell playing another quicrky role as he also did in the first two movies. The cast was amazing.

The film is much darker than the first two. There are moments of Action, Comedy and even some Tear Jerking scenes. You are on a total emotional rollercoaster. The chemistry between the leading characters, as well as the villans is so strong that you really feel for them.

The effects just get better and better. There was so much detail in the graphics. Every grain of sand looked spectacular in The Sandman. Venom looked amazing. The character was portrayed exactly as it was in the comic and the cartoons.

The music was a bit different this time round, since Danny Elfman did not score it, but there were some nice new themes introduced into the music that was all character based. Something that was not done in the previous movies. Each character had their own theme. The original music was still there and it was nice hearing that all too familiar Spiderman theme from the cartoons that was being played by the band in one scene.

The action scenes are amazing. They are extremely fast paced and keep you at the edge of your seat. There are also a lot of non action scenes which bring so much more to the story. Some being extremely emotional and others being very funny.

I do not have anything bad to say about the movie. I enjoyed it and I think that most people will. If you are a Spiderman fan you will love this movie. It does bring closure to some major points of the story, but this hopefully will not be the last movie.

Movie Review - Superman Returns

So after all my waiting to see the newest installment in what probably is my second most favourite movie, I am very disappointed to tell you about it.

"Superman Returns" has a very well put together cast, which I liked.  Brandon Routh (pronounced SOUTH) who plays Clark Kent AKA. Superman, I thought did a pretty good job and so did everyone else taking up the roles we are so accustomed to seeing. Maybe it is because I am so accustomed to the original films (1+2) but I think that when you see this film you may think the same way that I do about it.

The film itself looks nice in its nice high definition picture. Wish I could see the 3D version, but unfortunately here in Trinidad there is no IMAX.

Anyway, let me see ... oh yes, Story. Ummm we have already seen Lex Luthor talking about land in the original movie, so we really did not have to see this plot again. I shall not tell you what about Land he goes on about, just in case I spoil it for those who have not seen the movie yet.

Well there is really not much of a story. It ends with nowhere to go. Lex Luthor should not have been the only villain. A more Superhuman villain should have been introduced. That is probably the only way to go if they actually can get a sequel made after this. The movie might have actually been exciting.

So we want to see Lots of flying and action. Well there is flying, which looks nice but I have to say that Keanu Reeves flying in the final Matrix film actually looks better.

Now to the action, well hmmm there is NONE. Well maybe one scene. You know how Superman saves lots of people? Well he does in this movie, but you do not really get to see much of that.

Hmmm, from the beginning I did not like what I was seeing, well really Hearing, cause the Score has been butchered by John Ottman who also edited the film. The original score by John Williams which we know so well and has all the Power that Superman does, has been melted away into a poor rendition of it. This poor score takes away so much from the whole movie. You are waiting to hear the Superman theme ROAR out when Clark opens his shirt, but you don’t. Gosh. It is bad !!!!!!!!

The movie itself is nice, cause you do get some emotions from the chemistry between the characters.  I really liked the little things from the original films that they sort of Nod to and the original Marlon Brando footage. This, however only imitates the original.

This movie was NOT original in anyway and can never be compared to the original.

DVD Review - The Lord of the Rings

So the time we have all been awaiting has come. The final installment to The Lord of the Rings was released in its extended form. 50 extra minutes to be exact, bringing the movie close to 4 hours. Now that I had all 3 gift sets with extended editions I was ready to begin my journey.

With a couple of friends, cranking up the DTS and watching in widescreen splendor, I sat down to embark on the quest with Frodo, Sam and the Fellowship as they trek through Middle Earth to destroy the One Ring.

We all know the story… the one ring to rule them all must be destroyed before theEvil Sauron gets his hands on it. Each movie is filled with extra scenes that add so much to them. The book is so detailed that it was really nice seeing those scenes in the movie also. Some key scenes such as receiving gifts from Galadriel, along with the taking down of Saruman and the Mouth of Sauron were great to watch. The Mouth of Sauron was especially delightful for some reason. Not knowing if it was the humour in it or just watching the mouth, but it was a really cool scene. Other scenes with Merry and Pipin and Aragorn were also a nice touch in getting to know their characters a little bit more.

What can I say? Watching an almost 12 hour long movie straight out, was so exciting. It was amazing to see how large and in depth Peter Jackson went in producing this work or art.

For all those film geeks like myself out there, watching the 2 other discs on the creation of each movie was also very fulfilling. They show you pretty much all the details of everything that went into making these movies.

Each gift set also came with an additional disc and miniatures.
The Fellowship of the Ring was accompanied by bookends in the shapes of The Argonaths and a DVD showing the National Geographic’s look at The Lord of The Rings. The Two Towers came with a Statuette of Golum and a DVD on the Creation of the character. The Return of The King had a Miniture of The White City, Minas Tirith and a DVD on the Symphony of The Lord of The Rings.
So there you have it. If you have not bought this DVD collection, go out now and purchase it.
